Pocket Altars - May 10

from $45.00
Sliding Scale Level:

Make a precious sewn object to hold the things that matter most to you.

In this workshop, led by Malavika Rao, we will create a hand-sewn pocket altar - a soft fabric pouch to hold keepsakes, photographs, ancestors, and intentions.

Together, we’ll think about what an altar can be: a site of care, a place to return to, or a way of honoring the everyday. We will stitch in keepsakes, attach small photographs, or add fabrics that hold significance, transforming the pouch into a personal anchor.

All materials will be provided, along with an assortment of fabric scraps and embellishments. Participants are encouraged to bring fabric remnants, small objects, or meaningful items they may want to incorporate into their altar. This workshop is beginner-friendly and open to all; no prior sewing experience needed.

You'll leave with: a finished pocket altar — a soft, hand-sewn pouch holding whatever you choose to put inside it.

Workshop Details:

  • Date: May 10

  • Time: 1:00pm - 4:00pm

  • Location: 850 N Virgil Ave

  • Class size: Limited to 8 participants

  • Skill level: Beginner-friendly - no experience required

Sliding scale pricing: Base rate covers the workshop cost. Community rate is for those who need a lower price point. Supporter rate helps subsidize spots for others. Choose what works for you.

Bring with you: any fabric scraps, small objects, or photographs you'd like to incorporate
