In this month’s snailspace we will be exploring different types of anthotypes and sipping on tea made from the same ingredients.

Anthotype is an alternative photography process that utilizes photosensitive plant pigments to create soft and dreamy monochromatic images.

In this workshop you'll learn how to make anthotypes using blueberries, beets, and turmeric. We’ll also have special tea blends made with these same ingredients.

Participants will leave with a booklet on anthotypes and the tea recipes as well.

Enshrine a photograph in a stained glass picture frame

In this workshop led by Inessa Illes, you'll work with a selection of pre-cut glass shapes to build a frame sized to hold a favorite photo, polaroid, or photobooth strip.

Inessa will guide you through each step of the process, from selecting and arranging your pieces to soldering them together into a finished piece.

Bring your own photo to use for the sizing of the frame!

In this hands-on session, you’ll learn to sculpt loose wool into a solid, three-dimensional character based on your own doodles or designs. We provide a vibrant palette of wool colors to help your creation burst with personality. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a unique fuzzy companion to guard your desk or wear as a custom bag charm.

About the Artist:

Ayrin Gharibpour is a fabricator, animator and educator based in Los Angeles. Ayrin was born and raised in Iran and attended the Art University of Tehran where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design. She has ten years of experience in illustrating children's books and performing as puppeteer for theaters both in Tehran and Los Angeles including Aran Marionette Theater, The Bob Baker Marionette Theater, the Skirball Cultural Center and Redcat Theater. In this workshop, participants will create a handmade slow stitch journal, learning foundational hand-sewing techniques while practicing intuitive patchwork and fabric collage. We’ll bind the journals together in class and design personalized fabric covers, creating tactile objects meant to be returned to, added onto, and lived with over time.

Slow stitching is a fiber art practice grounded in attention, repetition, and radical slowness. In this session, we’ll emphasize process over perfection, approaching fiber as a contemplative, intuitive material rather than a means toward a polished end result. The journals we create can function as memory books, processing spaces, or sites for ongoing stitching, reflection, and experimentation.

All materials will be provided, including fabric scraps and sewing notions. Participants are welcome to bring their own scraps to incorporate into their journals. Everyone will leave the workshop with a bound journal to continue filling and stitching into over time. No prior sewing experience is necessary — this workshop is beginner-friendly and open to all.

You'll start by selecting a card at random from a deck, then cutting away and rebuilding imagery using collage techniques to create a tarot card that reflects your own story, emotions, or intentions. No art or tarot experience needed - all materials are provided, and each attendee will leave with a one-of-a-kind customized tarot card.
