The Process

1. Initial Conversation

Email us at squeak@housemouse.la with your ideas, inspiration images, or a description of what you're hoping for. Tell us about:

  • What you're envisioning

  • How you'll use it or where it will live

  • Timeline and budget considerations

  • Any meaningful details or symbolism to incorporate

  • Quantity (single piece vs. set)

2. Concept Development

We'll sketch ideas, discuss forms and glazes, and refine the concept together. This is collaborative—your feedback shapes the direction. We'll provide a detailed quote including materials, labor, firing, and timeline.

3. Creation

Once you've approved the design and quote, we begin work. For larger projects or sets, we'll send progress photos. Clay takes time—pieces need to dry slowly, be bisque fired, glazed, and then glaze fired. Each step matters.

4. Completion & Pickup

We'll let you know when your pieces are ready. You can pick them up at the studio during our open hours, or we can arrange local delivery for larger commissions.

Timeline & Pricing

Timeline:
Most commissions take 4-8 weeks from approval to completion. This accounts for drying time, bisque firing, glazing, and final firing. Larger projects or sets may take longer. Rush options may be available depending on our schedule—just ask.

Pricing:
Varies based on size, complexity, quantity, and glaze requirements. Factors include:

  • Size and scale of pieces

  • Level of detail and hand-work required

  • Number of pieces in a set

  • Custom glaze development

  • Firing considerations

We'll provide a detailed quote after our initial conversation so there are no surprises.

General pricing ranges:

  • Single functional piece (mug, small bowl): $25-35

  • Medium functional piece (large bowl, vase, planter): $50-75

  • Dinnerware place setting (4 pieces): $120-150

  • Sculptural/decorative piece: Starting at $250

  • Sets and collections: Custom pricing based on scope

Deposits:
50% deposit required to begin work, with the balance due upon completion.

Revisions:
We build in opportunities for feedback during the design phase. Once clay work begins, major design changes may affect timeline and pricing.
