CHĀ HUĀ - HUĀ CHÁ: arranging & drinking flowers | April 12 & 26

$125.00

Join us in a celebration of spring flowers with CHĀ HUĀ - HUĀ CHÁ: Arranging & Drinking Flowers.

A play on the phonetic Chinese words, CHĀ HUĀ translates to “arrange flowers” and HUĀ CHÁ to “flower tea.” In this two-part workshop, we will engage with the mediums of clay and flowers in a variety of ways, for a delectable tactile experience that inspires all of the senses.

Workshop Curriculum

  • Session 1: You’ll learn the basics of ceramic handbuilding to create two vessels - one to be used as a tea cup and the other as a miniature vase. This will be a time to play with and feel the clay as you build two functional forms. We will also go over a few techniques to add texture and details to adorn the vessels. We’ll glaze and fire your vessels to be used in Session 2.

  • Session 2: Use your vessels to arrange flowers and drink tea. Using the best flowers the season has to offer, including hellebores, fritillaria, sweet peas, flowering branches, and others, and focusing on locally sourced blooms, we will create ikebana-inspired compositions with an emphasis on line and form in a meditative process. There will be Hua Tea herbal and black flower tea blends available to taste, as well as ingredients for you to experiment with your own tea blend, creating a flower arrangement in another form.

Open to all skill levels, no prior experience required. All flowers, materials and tools provided. Each participant will take home their two vessels and flower arrangement.

Tickets are transferable but non-refundable. Maximum 12 participants, minimum 5 participants - if there are fewer sign-ups tickets will be refunded.
